Ignite the Spark of Creativity Through Music Improvisation:
Teacher In Service

Through exploring the musical heritage and traditions of many lands, we gain a greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of cultural diversity. This workshop expresses that goal through the concept of musical self-_expression as a joyful and positive means of communication. Participants explore an exciting array of music improvisation tools and techniques designed to bring out the musician in each of us, regardless of age or experience! Mary weaves music concepts such as form, meter, dynamics, conducting, pentatonic scales, ethnic scales, spoken rhythmic language, and others into a variety of ensemble forms including duets, trios, and quartets. Many of the workshop activities are included in Mary's recent book for music educators and facilitators, BOOM DO PA: A Creative Guide to Ethnic Influenced Music Improvisation. Also included, for those working with young children, Mary will cover material from her activity book / CD combination Rhythms All Around.
